Greetings, everyone. First, let me say congratulations to my hometown Atlanta Braves for winning the Major League Baseball National League Championship series and heading to the World Series for the first time since 1999. I have a special affinity for the Braves since I sold Coca-Cola drinks at their games as a little boy, back in the old Atlanta-Fulton County stadium. And, I attended school with Hank Aaron’s sons, Hank Jr. and Larry for two years at Marist High School.

But, speaking of championships, America is a champion nation. It is not just hyperbole when we say that this is the greatest nation the world has ever known. As well, when you think about the state of Texas, well, name me another State in America that fought for and won its championship, its independence, all by itself . . . which began 186 years ago, October 2nd, 1835, at a place called Gonzales, Texas. The Texas championship banner still flies today with the words, “Come and Take It.” And, that leads us to the topic of this week’s missive.

I am sick and tired of folks asking about when Joe Biden or Kamala Harris will actually visit the border here in Texas? The bottom line truth is that they will not. They, in their minds, have no reason to because there is no “crisis” at the border here in Texas.

Because what we are experiencing here in Texas is intentional, purposeful, and unconstitutional. The Biden administration has, by way of unconstitutional executive action, implemented an open borders agenda that is undermining the sovereignty of the Lone Star State. Biden has abdicated his constitutional duty that is outlined in the Guarantee Clause of the Constitution. The federal government is providing taxpayer funding to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to aid and abet human trafficking. That is a fact which has been proven with the airline flights, in the middle of the night, that have departed from Texas and landed in New York, Florida, and Tennessee. The Biden administration, and its complicit horde of progressive socialists in the US House of Representatives and Senate, want to undermine our representative democracy by ending voter ID, never allowing voter registration roll review, making unsolicited mail in ballots the standard, and, yes, allowing illegals to vote in our elections.

This cannot be debated, as we see these actions taking place every day. As well, we have transnational narco-criminal terrorists, cartels, firing across the international border into Texas targeting our National Guard troops and Border Patrol. That is an act of war, yet, no one in elected position — Biden, or Governor Abbott — is saying, or doing anything. Either our Constitution, our rule of law has meaning, or it does not. States are sovereign in America, and when the federal government fails in its prescribed duties, which is not to mandate shots in the arm, what must states do? Texas is facing a drug, human and sex trafficking, public health, and national security crisis which would qualify as imminent danger. So why are we not taking action, as the Constitution asserts, “without admit of delay?”

The answer is disconcerting, and appalling, because it comes down to the fact that we have Republican elected officials in Texas who are weak and spineless. They are willing to throw their hands up in the air and watch the life, liberty and property of Texans be threatened, and destroyed. We are facing another 60 thousand illegal immigrants making their way towards Texas. Why? Because up to this point, no one has stood on the rule of law and deterred them from entering. I did a little chalk talk video that offers my policy solutions on this issue. If we do not protect our border, defeat the insurgency that is growing, revoke the licenses of these NGOs, and end the taxpayer funded magnets drawing illegal immigrants to our 1254 mile border, we will lose our hard earned championship banner, title, and blessing.

I will be heading back down to the border this week. I will be out doing night patrol operations with local constitutional law enforcement, our sheriffs. It is unconscionable to me that we are allowing hundreds of thousands == nearly 2 million over the past fiscal year — to enter the United States illegally.

Champions defend their titles, we are casting ours into the muck and mire to be trampled upon.

Article 4, Section 7 of the Texas State Constitution states one of the duties of the Governor or Texas, “He shall be commander-in-chief of the military forces of the State, except when they are called into actual service of the United States. He shall have power to call forth the militia to execute the laws of the State, to suppress insurrections, repel invasions, and protect the frontier from hostile incursions by Indians or other predatory bands.”

We are facing an invasion of epic proportions along the Texas border. As well, the cartels are a predatory band who are enabling human and sex trafficking to thrive in Texas. Our elected officials in Texas have two clear choices: uphold the rule of law by protecting our sovereignty or be accurately characterized as aiding and abetting the undermining of such and the heinous and immoral aspects of modern day human and sex slave trade.

As Governor of Texas, y’all know which choice I will make.

Steadfast and Loyal,

Lt. Col. Allen B. West (Ret.)
