Texans to Gov. Abbott: Please Reopen Texas!

As you know, I have written a number of posts, most recently yesterday, regarding the need to reopen the American economy.

Today, I am pleased to announce that I am one of 216 leaders across Texas to sign a letter to Gov. Abbott, requesting common-sense measures to get Texans back to work.

I hope you will read the letter and encourage others to do the same. We must preserve one of the greatest economies in the world.

Final Open for Business Coalition Letter to Abbott 4.17.20

Here’s Why We Must Reopen the Economy Now

I am not some reactionary, overly emotional, impetuous type of individual. My Myers-Briggs personality survey is ISTJ. We care for and are concerned for the Americans who have lost loved ones during this COVID-19 pandemic. But, we must be realistic, and objective, in assessing that, indeed, there has been a greater crisis created due to the reliance of elected officials upon the data from two erroneous, flawed, computer models..one from Imperial College in London and the Institution of Hospital Metrics and Evaluation (IHME) at the University of Washington. Here are the real numbers, as of this morning at 6 am:

United States
Estimated Population (328,239,523)

Reported COVID-19 cases (605,390)
Recovered (36,076)
Fatalities (24,582)

Texas
Estimated Population (28,995,881)
Reported Cases (15,492)
Recovered (3,150)
Fatalities (364)
* In my home county of Dallas, we have experienced less than 40 fatalities

The National Data from the 2017-2018 Influenza Season:
Estimated Cases (45M)
Hospitalizations (810K)
Fatalities (61K)

I present this data as a comparative assessment in order for you, the reader, to make your own decision. I have done so, and decided that it was a bad idea to shut down the American economy. Should we have taken precautions and presented businesses with courses of action to maintain operations? Yes. Should we have come forward with a “carpet bombing” approach which has now created greater collateral damage than the COVID-19 virus itself?

The answer is no, and this morning we discovered just how bad that collateral damage is.

As reported by Business Insider:

“In just four weeks, coronavirus layoffs have erased more than a decade of record job creation. US weekly jobless claims were at 5.2 million for the week ending April 11, the Labor Department said in a Thursday report. Claims declined slightly from the previous week, when 6.6 million Americans filed for unemployment insurance.

The report brought the four-week total of displaced American workers filing for unemployment to 22.03 million. It also means that coronavirus-related layoffs have effectively erased the 22 million jobs that the US economy added since the post-Great Recession recovery starting in mid-2009. “We wiped that out so fast,” Heidi Shierholz, a senior economist at the Economic Policy Institute, told Business Insider. “It’s mind-boggling.”

Ladies and gents, we now have a greater crisis than the supposed one we faced with #COVID19. We are now dealing with two man-made crises, COVID-19, which we will solve, but now a bigger one: massive unemployment. Click To Tweet

This is the result of a nation being driven into fear, paranoia, panic, and hysteria based upon unreliable computer models. Ladies and gents, we now have a greater crisis than the supposed one we faced. And, the second, third, and fourth-order effects may not be felt for even longer. We are now dealing with two man-made crises, COVID-19 — which we will solve –but now a bigger one: massive unemployment.

The United States is also some $23T in debt, and we can ill-afford to believe that the federal government can just write checks to people. That is surrender to the concept of a universal basic income (UBI); a socialist dream, and a free-market economic disaster. We can not allow the American people to become addicted to the crack cocaine of government largesse, just as the markets were addicted to quantitative easing measures that create a false economy.

We already are seeing the ideological agenda fraud associated with the giving of cash. California Governor Gavin Newsome has decided to give out cash payments to illegal immigrants…just brilliant!

We can not allow the American people to become addicted to the crack cocaine of government largesse, just as the markets were addicted to quantitative easing measures that create a false economy. Click To Tweet

Doggone, open up our economy, get the American people back to work! Treat us as adults and not infantile drones who can be herded to and fro as political pawns. Give us guidelines, not mandates, edicts, and orders so that we can take care of ourselves, our families, and our businesses. We do not want to be dependent upon the government. If there is one thing we can attest to in this case, the government screwed this up. This has nothing to do with political party, this was a lack of visionary leadership that recognizes how to assess an issue and consider short versus long-term ramifications, consequences.

America is the greatest nation the world has ever known. Let’s freaking start acting like it and not like a bunch of whimpering, whining, wusses who can’t improvise, adapt, and overcome.

Someone needs to have the cajones to just say it. America needs to get back to work at the end of this month. Here are the guidelines, now, go make it happen.

The Target on Texas

Howdy, y’all . . . I know we are enduring the 24/7 media coverage of COVID-19, but we must maintain a strategic focus. There will be an election in November of this year which is critical to the future of our Constitutional Republic.

If there is a real lesson to be learned from this Wuhan Chinese coronavirus episode, it is how quickly our essential liberties were assailed. It was how convincingly we succumbed to the fear, paranoia, panic, and hysteria. Yes, we need to take precautions and stay healthy, and live a healthy lifestyle. Soon the elected officials who questionably put in place these measures against our liberties will pat themselves on the back, and demand praise and accolades because they imposed measures that ended the crisis before it worsened. Just watch, it is coming.

But, here in Texas, the haters of our individual liberty still have a target on our Lone Star State.

As reported in the Houston Chronicle:

“As the coronavirus outbreak ravages fundraising efforts by political campaigns across Texas, the political affiliate of one of the country’s oldest gun violence prevention groups is bringing reinforcements to the state, where it sees Democrats’ efforts to flip the state houses as among the most important races in the nation. BradyPAC is the latest gun safety group to turn its attention to Texas, planning to spend more than half a million on elections in the state — more than it’s spending anywhere in the nation by far — as it remains the top target in 2020 for groups pushing for new gun laws.

“If you can get Texas passing strong gun laws, I think that sends a really strong message to the rest of the country,” said Brian Lemek, executive director of the political action committee affiliated with Brady, a nonprofit formed in 1974 that advocates for assault weapons bans, red flag laws and stricter gun storage requirements, among other things.

Texas gun rights groups are also stepping up fundraising, warning supporters that they need to help defend 20 seats in the Texas House this fall.”

As I have always asserted, 'an armed individual is a citizen, and unarmed individual is a subject.' Here in Texas, we do not want to be subjects. Click To Tweet

We have previously shared with y’all the declared intentions of Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety/Moms Demand Action groups. They are allocating $8-$10 million dollars into Texas to support anti-Second Amendment candidates running for the Texas State House, primarily focused in the Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston (Harris County) areas. Now, joined by the Brady Bunch, they are targeting the State of Texas in an attempt to replicate exactly what was done in the State of Virginia. We know the results there, from November 2019, and the ensuing full-scale attacks against individual rights to keep and bear arms.

Now, there are some — even in the Texas GOP — who think this is all fantasy and just a “Democrat talking point.” Those are the types of individuals who do not need to be in any position of leadership on this ideological battlefield. Y’all know my background as an NRA Board Member, and Life Member of the Texas State Rifle Association, Dallas Safari Club, and Gun Owners of America. We can ill afford to lose this fight, especially here in Texas. As Texas goes, so goes our America.

Consider this if you will: these leftists who wish to undermine our unalienable right to defend ourselves, families, and property are the same people who want to have open borders here in Texas and unbridled illegal immigration. To them, illegally crossing our border is not a crime. But, someone having a semi-automatic rifle is deemed more of a threat, a potential criminal. Do not believe that it stops with semi-automatic rifles. We have seen with this Wuhan coronavirus crisis, who gets to decide what is “essential?” To the left, abortion clinics and sites providing hypodermic needles, along with other items on their ideological agenda, are essential. But a business that supports our Second Amendment —  gun stores and ranges — are not “essential.”

These leftists are already making decisions about magazine sizes, ammunition, and prevention of reciprocity for concealed carry holders. What part of a constitutional right do they not comprehend? Oops, forgot, if it does not align with the left’s ideological agenda it is not a respected, recognized, and regarded right.

Texas is the number one state in America for human and sex trafficking, and the Brady Bunch wants to focus on gun control? We have a proliferation of gang violence and drug trafficking, and the Brady Bunch wants to support gun control candidates? Here in South Dallas, we are witnessing an increase in major crimes. What is the left’s answer? Yes, flood Texas with millions of dollars to undermine your right to defend yourself. I guess the left does not deem that right as “essential.”

Just imagine this scenario: if you are not able to defend yourself, your family, and/or your home, what prevents you from refusing compliance to any unconstitutional mandate, edict, or directive issued by elected officials seeking concentrated power?

No, this is not being alarmist, this is about being a realist…and the progressive socialist left is conveying to us, explicitly, their delusional intent.

“The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes…. Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”
— Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Book (quoting 18th-century criminologist Cesare Beccaria), 1774-1776

Those words of Thomas Jefferson are the immutable truth. As I have always asserted, “an armed individual is a citizen, and unarmed individual is a subject.” Here in Texas, we do not want to be subjects. That was the message sent to Generalisimo Santa Anna back in 1836. In the Lone Star State, we are not about to allow Bloomberg’s minions or the Brady Bunch to do what Santa Anna sought to do.

Further, Robert Francis O’Rourke is not going to be in charge of “taking care of the gun problem.”

On October 2, 1835, the Texians in Gonzalez sent a message to the Mexican Army. Today, we Texans, — and all Americans — will send a message to the tyrants of the progressive socialist left: “Molon Labe”. . . Come and Take it.

Forced Isolation, Forced Masking . . . Texas Style

Good TGIF, y’all!

Here in Texas, our “forced isolation” or shelter-in-place order imposed unilaterally by Dallas County Judge, Clay Jenkins has been extended. As of yesterday noon, the Lone Star State, a state of 28.9 million people, had lost 70 Texans to the Wuhan Chinese COVID-19 virus. Yes, I am sure folks will comment that is because we are not doing enough testing. It is always very difficult to prove or disprove a negative.

But, it appears that some in Texas may be going just a tad too far.

As reported by KGNS in Laredo, Texas,

“[Laredo City] Council came together to discuss and pass motions that will affect just about everyone in the city when it comes to the coronavirus. The stay at home measures continue to change.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, society is having to change how they live.

Tuesday evening, council members came together, while keeping their distance. Some in different rooms, others joined in through their computer in their home.

But something was new: everyone present was wearing a protective face mask.

A motion was passed making it a punishable offense for all ages to be out in public between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., with the exception of “essential workers” or emergency situations.

You will need to provide I.D. and a letter from work if you are out between the hours of the new curfew.

The City says police will use discretion and you could face a fine between $50 to $1,000, and it’s an arrestable offense.

This new measure goes into effect on Thursday at 12:01 midnight.

A second motion was passed that included the mandate for all Laredoans to begin wearing protective face masks, or “nose to mouth” covers. That includes any type of fabric, scarf, or bandana.

This measure also takes effect Thursday at 12:01 midnight, and it can be punishable of up to $1,000, but a judge could determine the final fine.

If you are exercising in your yard or garage, you do not have to wear a mask.

The executive order was extended, putting all these mandates into effect until April 30th.”

So let me get this right: in Laredo, Texas, the City Council, government, has mandated everyone to wear a face-covering, or else face a fine? I suppose the folks of Laredo should be thankful they aren’t in the Philippines:

“President Rodrigo Duterte is allowing the use of deadly force against those found violating lockdown standards implemented in an effort to curtail the spread of the coronavirus.” — NY Daily News

So, I guess a $1,000 fine is better than being shot.

I have never been a fan of collective punishment as a means to adjust individual behavior, but that is a socialist, communist, ideal. It is always done under the guise of 'the public good.' Click To Tweet

Regardless, think about this precedent being established by the City Council of Laredo. They have just decreed that you will do something, under the premise of the public good, or else face a fine. Oh, by the way, is the City Council of Laredo going to provide some type of face covering? What is the difference between this, in principle, and the individual mandate of Obamacare? Remember, you must purchase health insurance, for the better good, or else you will be fined? What happens when government decides that you must purchase an electric vehicle, for the better good of climate change, or else you will be fined? Or, how about you must buy plant-based “meat” products, for the better good, and government will raise taxes on real meat products in order to modify your behavior?

I have never been a fan of collective punishment as a means to adjust individual behavior, but that is a socialist, communist, ideal. It is always done under the guise of “the public good.” Some municipal governments have implemented a Sugar Tax, basically unlawful fines, placed on certain beverage products. Again, all because a group of elected officials has determined what is our “better good.”

No, I do not like this mandated decree to wear a mask, under penalty of a fine. One thing is for certain: I do not want anyone mandating I wear a protective mask that was “made in China!” Thanks, but I will just pay the fine.

“Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.”

How true.

When Exploiting the Health Crisis Hits Closer to Home

Saturday I shared with y’all the insidious political exploitation of the COVID-19 crisis by the Mayor of Champaign, Illinois. Sadly, there are always going to be opportunists who seek ideological advantage and gain in a crisis situation.

Now, it appears that here in my home, the Lone Star State of Texas, we are not immune from the same.

As reported by the Texas Tribune (a media outlet funded by George Soros):

“A Texas-based immigrant rights group sounded alarm bells Friday about recent immigration enforcement raids it said have created fear within the immigrant community and will result in sick [illegal] immigrants not seeking medical attention should the new coronavirus strike the borderlands.

There have been at least six raids by immigration officials in El Paso County in the past two weeks, said Fernando Garcia, the executive director of the Border Network for Human Rights. Garcia and other advocates said the enforcement is ill timed as the pandemic has cloaked the country in uncertainty and fear. The raids targeted small, Latino-owned businesses in the community, he said. “We have a list of documented cases. We’ve talked to the business and the people, and all of that has been verified within our own internal process,” Garcia said.

The organization prepares annual reports on enforcement and use-of-force incidents and investigates claims of abuse or government overreach in immigration enforcement. “We have the names of the business, we have talked to the owners and we have the names of employees,” he said. “That is the way we have done our traditional documentation campaign. Now the next step for us is to sit down with ICE and demand they stop these enforcement actions.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for Immigration and Customs Enforcement in El Paso said the agency does not conduct enforcement operations at medical facilities “except under extraordinary circumstances.”

“Claims to the contrary are false and create unnecessary fear within communities. Individuals should continue to seek care for medical conditions,” spokesperson Leticia Zamarripa said. She added that the agency, “like other law enforcement agencies with a detained population, is taking important steps to further safeguard those in our care and, as a precautionary measure, ICE is temporarily suspending social visitation in all of its detention facilities.”

In essence, this group is seeking is to cease protecting American citizens from those in our country — and our Texas — illegally. It would not surprise me at all if this leftist mayor would declare a state of emergency and mandate that such law enforcement actions be suspended. Let us not forget that these are the very same people who advocate for “open borders” and we once shared with you an assessment of the healthcare issues such an absurd position enables…primarily for our Border Patrol agents and their families.

Yes, “never let a good crisis go to waste” is the mantra of the progressive socialist left, and this is yet another example. If there was ever a time to secure our borders, it is now. Think of it this way: isn’t a travel ban basically an aerial shutdown of our border? This is what the left criticized in the beginning with the Trump administration. I believe that the situation would be far worse if that travel ban, and the ensuing one against the European Union had not been implemented.

Speaking of the European Union, think about the concerns with the spread on their continent since they have free, open borders within the EU zone. Perhaps that is why we are now seeing Spain and the next contagion area in Europe.

But, the left has never allowed facts to dissuade them from pursuing their goals and objectives.

If there is one thing I despise, it is the creation of fear and hysteria in a crisis situation. This is a clear example of such, by insinuating that our law enforcement officers, performing their duties, are creating fear in El Paso over being sick is juvenile at worse, delusional at best. Having borders that are not secure during a time of a global pandemic is irrational, and dangerous.

The progressive socialist left will use any crisis to advance their ideological agenda. For us here in Texas, just imagine, this is what “turning Texas blue” means, free reign of illegal immigrants in our State, and draining our healthcare resources. Remember, every single Democrat presidential candidate once affirmed that they would provide free healthcare to illegal immigrants. Where does that leave you?

Collin County Conservative Republicans: Texas GOP Chairman Debate

Last night, during the Collin County Conservative Republicans Precinct Chair Appreciation event, the candidates for Chair of the Republican Party of Texas were invited to participate in a debate to showcase for the attendees their vision and platform for Texas.

Super Tuesday Results From Texas: It Ain’t Pretty

Ever since I was a little boy, I have always enjoyed math. It was always a treat solving equations and figuring out solutions based upon formulas. Regardless of the common core math fallacy, there are objective truths, and they can be found in the study of mathematics. I suppose that was why being a US Army Field Artillery officer was the perfect fit for me, figuring out firing solutions to put “steel on target.” Back in the day, we had to do our computations, under time constraints, with tabular firing tables and slide rules . . . those were the days.

Numbers tell a story when you know what to analyze, and they provide insight and the ability to develop plans and strategies. Therefore, our campaign staff for Texas GOP Chairman decided to take a look at some numbers from the Super Tuesday primary election here in the Lone Star State. We believed the results would tell us a story, but the story we uncovered is not a good one.

I think it is time those living in a delusional fantasy land stop kidding themselves, and realize that, well, yes, “Houston, we have a problem.” Now, I am not an alarmist, certainly not one to panic, but I am a realist. And, it is time we get real about what is happening, politically, in Texas.

It is, sad to say, a repeat of what the progressive socialist left has been doing in other once strong, conservative states.

The data found below comes from the Texas Secretary of State website. You can also see the results by county by party. This is all open-source data that anyone can find, research, analyze, and assess. What we did was to look at the major population centers in Texas, by county, and several surrounding counties, to provide a picture of what happened in this primary election cycle.

By comparison, we looked at three rural (lower population) counties. This is the data we found posted as of Thursday, March 5th. Here is what we found, with “us” meaning Republicans:

The turnout percentage number is based upon the number of registered voters in those respective counties. What has to be rather disconcerting is the low voter turnout for Republicans overall, but especially in some very critical counties, such as where I reside, Dallas County…which saw a dismal 6.2 percent turnout.

We must increase voter enthusiasm, turnout...more than ever in major population centers. It's critical that Republicans are inspired, not just for the top of the ticket, but for the complete ballot. #Election2020 #SuperTuesday Click To Tweet

The first critical analysis from this data is that we must increase our voter enthusiasm, turnout. That has to occur more than ever in the major population centers. It is critical that Republicans are inspired, and not just for the top of the ticket, but for the complete ballot. That means voter education, and the development of ballot slates is vital. We can ill afford another bushwhacking, like in 2018 where the Texas Republicans lost 12 state house seats, and most importantly 56 judicial positions.

Yes, we must be concerned about the progressive socialist expansion from these major population centers. We can easily ascertain that their spread is in a particular direction. If you look at Houston — Harris County — you will find that the left is finding success to the west in Ft. Bend County. This is very important since there is an open congressional seat up for grabs there. We cannot continue to tout winning a Texas State House special election a few months ago, where the Republicans greatly outnumbered the Democrats.

Going into the November 2020 election cycle, it is imperative that we develop a political calculus to determine the precincts in these major population centers where we can grow numbers. This is not just about registering folks to vote! We gotta get them out to vote!

Going into November, it's imperative we develop a political calculus to determine precincts in major population centers where we can grow numbers. It's not just about registering folks to vote! We gotta get them out to vote! Click To Tweet

Where can we gain those Independents and disaffected Democrats who do not wish to go down the path of the left’s ideological agenda? We must force the Democrats here in Texas to define what “turn Texas blue” means. We do not win on defense. It is time to go on offense. In essence, this is all about “micro-targeting” in these population centers, with definitive MOE (measures of effectiveness), goals, milestones, that we must hit . . . and that means careful management and constant updates.

If there is one thing for certain, it is that we must deliver our conservative message into the place where you find the greatest failure of leftist policies . . . the major cities. Just look at Austin.

Another staggering tidbit of information I never thought I would see in the Lone Star State, Bernie Sanders garnered over 633,000 votes and was the choice of Democrats in Denton, Bexar, Travis, Hays, and El Paso, just to name a few.

As well, that means finally, engaging, and sustaining, a policy relationship with the black and Hispanic communities. There is no reason why the Texas GOP should not have the Asian, namely the Vietnamese and Indian, communities solidly in our corner in the Lone Star State!

Further, it is time to roll up our sleeves and stand shoulder to shoulder with our Young Conservatives of Texas on these college and university campuses.

By a short comparison, let’s look at counties where I visited on Thursday, in the Texas Big Country. Abilene, Texas is in Jones and Taylor Counties

Jones – registered voters 9,287
D – 336 votes cast  – 3.62% turnout
R – 2,765 votes cast – 29.77% turnout

Taylor – registered voters 79,737
D – 4,824 votes cast – 6.05% turnout
R – 15,963 votes cast – 20.02% turnout

Coleman (County, south of Abilene) – registered voters 5,818
D – 163 votes cast 2.8% turnout
R – 2,354 votes cast 40.46% turnout

Folks, let me share a little something with y’all: when I shared this data in Abilene, they were shocked to hear some of these numbers. We must have an 80-100 percent turnout in our rural counties and that means East and West Texas. Nothing less will suffice, this is all hands on deck, “all in,” for Texas. If we have a massive turnout in our outer ring areas, regions, and then strategically focus — and, I mean like lasers — in the major population centers, we can pull off a resounding victory in November 2020!

However, if this is the trend, as these numbers suggest, then “Katie bar da door.” We must hold Texas, in order to hold America. Remember, mini-Mike is dumping $8M here to support anti-gun candidates running for the Texas State House in Dallas and Houston counties. I predict that Joe Biden will select a black female as his VP candidate. Sorry ol’ Bob Frank O’Rourke.

This is a fight, but we have all the right tools in our shed. We just gotta go for it, and, by God, show up!

Steadfast and Loyal!

Happy 184th Texas Independence Day

Greetings, everyone! Today is the 184th celebration of the establishment of the Republic of Texas.

Texas Independence Day is the celebration of the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence on March 2, 1836. With this document signed by 59 delegates at Washington-on-the-Brazos, settlers in Mexican Texas officially declared independence from Mexico and created the Republic of Texas.

The reason why the Texas state flag is the only one authorized to fly at the same height as the American flag is because Texas was once its own Republic. As a matter of fact, it was not until nine years later that Texas was admitted into the Union, and became a sovereign state of these United States of America.

However, consider this: even to this day, Texas Independence Day is not a statewide holiday. There is reduced staffing, but offices are not closed. This begs the question: how many even know that today is Texas Independence Day? How many people know that 184 years ago, this was day nine of the siege at The Alamo?

Heck, how many residents in Texas even know that Texas was once a Republic, which has its own Declaration of Independence? If I remember correctly, it is the only state in these United States of America that does. She singularly fought and won a revolution, a war of independence.

This is why there is a swagger in Texas. This is why the Lone Star State has a deep meaning, an aura, that is known worldwide . . .  a mystique. It is all because from October 2, 1835, through March 6, 1836, it fought for its independence, which was not secured until the 18-minute woodshed whipping put on General Santa Anna and his Mexican Army at the Battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836.

But, what does Texas Independence mean today?

When you look up the word independence, you see phrases associated with that term such as self-government and self-rule. This is exactly what independence means. It is a mindset that when confronted with the dark specter of tyranny. Whether from the ruling British monarchy, or the despotic dictatorship of General Santa Anna, she refuses to succumb, surrender, retreat, or be subjugated.

Today, still yet, Texas faces a new threat, a new tyranny, that of progressive socialism that would seek to undermine that mindset of Texas independence. The leftism that challenges Texas is not from an external foe; it comes from those who live next door to us, work beside us, and go to sporting events, concerts, and dine with us. Consider that just last week, as we shared, Mayor Big Gulp — aka Mini-Mike — is unleashing $8M and his gun control organizations in Texas. His objective is to replicate what he successfully accomplished in Virginia and institute legislative edicts that are contrary to the gun rights that Texans enjoy. Basically, he wants to take away our independence, our freedom, and our ability to have self-rule. Thus, turning us into subjects, not Texas citizens.

I think we must begin to ask ourselves, and those who advance the leftist ideological agenda, just what does “turn Texas blue” mean?

Texas Independence is all about political, cultural, and financial independence. That is why Texas is the 10th largest economy in the world. Approximately 10 percent of Fortune 500 corporate headquarters located in Texas.

Texas has enabled the United States of America to be energy independent and a net exporter of oil and gas resources. Texas has its own energy grid. Texas has a landscape unlike any other. Texas has a culture, a history all to itself, a style that cannot be replicated elsewhere. What is vital, essential, and utterly important is that those coming to Texas realize what Texas Independence is all about.

Texas is not going to go backward. We will not surrender to the progressive socialist left, nor the masters of onerous government intrusion in Washington, DC. When those here speak of Texas Independence, it is first about securing that mindset, and if necessary, restoring the Texas Republic.

The insidious notion of “turning Texas blue” is synonymous with making Texas — and Texans — subservient to government control. We all know that the first step to that end is gun control. Anyone who embraces the ideal of a “Blue” Texas means that they do not support, comprehend, or accept Texas Independence. The reason being that the concept of independence starts with the individual, and leftism is all about the collective.

I was born and raised in a state that was one of the original thirteen colonies. Georgia fought in our American Revolution for our national independence. In Georgia, I grew up understanding the proud and rich history of my birth state. Yes, Georgia was once part of the Confederacy, and so was Texas. But, history exists for us to learn from, not destroy. Georgia is the largest state east of the Mississippi, and has 159 counties, second only to the place I call home, Texas, with 254 counties. Amazingly enough, it was a Georgian, Mirabeau Lamar, who became the second President of the Republic of Texas, after a man from Tennessee named Sam Houston.

I guess there are some things that never change: a fella like me, originally from Georgia, educated at the University of Tennessee, residing in Texas. And, yes, showing up at a time such as this to remember, celebrate, and defend Texas Independence.

Hell yeah, God Bless Texas!
