A Teachable Moment for Julian Castro

Yes, I think we can all agree that leftists say the dumbest things. And, when it comes to their insidious, and delusional, desire to instigate the disarmament of law-abiding, legal gun owners, the left really says stuck on stupid things. I present to you the latest case of dumb and dumber, one failing Democrat (socialist) Party presidential candidate, Julian Castro.

As reported by Townhall:

“Presidential candidate Julián Castro stated during the “2020 Presidential Gun Safety Forum” that the idea of a good guy with a gun being a solution to shootings has been “shattered.” The former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development pointed to the recent shooting in El Paso, Texas, where a gunman drove ten hours to a Walmart to target Latino shoppers.

“This idea of a good guy with a gun versus a bad guy with gun has been totally shattered,” Castro said. “This guy must’ve known that in Texas, where you have open carry, you have concealed carry, you have campus carry, one of the highest rate of gun ownership, that shooter knew he was walking into a place where a lot of people were carrying. And that didn’t make a difference.”

“So this argument that some have made to suggest that the answer is more guns, to me, over and over again, not only in El Paso, but time and again, that has been debunked,” Castro added.  The amount of defensive gun use vary widely. In a 1995 study by criminologists Gary Kleck and Marc Gertz, they concluded there are between 2.2 and 2.5 million defensive gun uses annually. The Washington Post has reported the number is closer to 100,000 instances each year.”

For Castro to use just the El Paso incident as a validation for his absurd assertion is utterly ludicrous. If anything, my question is why was there no one in the Walmart parking lot armed to engage this deranged shooter? Personal safety is a personal responsibility. I think it is time someone reminded little Julian about what happened in Sutherland Springs, Texas. It was there that the US Air Force, along with law enforcement, failed a community and did not upload the criminal record of the assailant into the National Instant Criminal Background Checks (NICs) system. Therefore, the convicted domestic abuse felon was able to purchase a semi-automatic firearm, and embarked upon his evil intent.

It was a simple man, Stephen Willeford, who was alerted to the sound of gunshots by his daughter on that Sunday morning. It was Willeford, a simple man — and one whom I have met on several occasions — ran to the sound of the gun, with his own semi-automatic rifle, AR-15. He ended the scourge and mortally wounded the shooter. Hey, Julian, this was a really good guy with a gun who stopped a really bad guy with the exact same gun.

I would also remind lil’ Jules that the Mosque shooter in New Zealand was stopped by a legal gun owner with a semi-automatic handgun. But what action did the Prime Minister of New Zealand take? Yes, she banned all semi-automatic firearms. So, she made the good guy who had stopped the bad guy a criminal if he did not comply with surrendering the very firearm he used to end a mass shooting.

Guess what? Julian and his buddy Bob Frank O’Rourke, would do the same to Stephen Willeford.

Now, each month the National Rifle Association magazine, America’s First Freedom, has a segment called “The Armed Citizen.” Here are a few vignettes I would like to share with y’all . . . and Jules.

–  In Saginaw, Texas, two men attempted to rob a homeowner inside his garage at 5:45pm. One of the men allegedly drew a gun. In response, the homeowner pulled out his firearm and shot one of the men: that died from his injuries. [Saginaw Texas, 8/11/19]

– An armed robber was shot dead by a 22-year-old man early in the morning on Detroit’s west side. Two men on foot approached three people seated inside a vehicle, from behind and attempted to rob them. One robber, armed with a gun, allegedly assaulted the driver and demanded items. The 22-year-old drew his concealed carry firearm and short the robber multiple times. The man died of his wounds. [detroitnews.com, Detroit Michigan, 8/819]

– A home intruder in Sioux City, Iowa, was stopped in his tracks by a homeowner who used his firearm to defend himself. The intruder, under the influence of LSD and morphine, broke windows to enter the home. The intruder refused to leave, after being confronted, and physcially assaulted the homeowner. The homeowner retrieved his firearm and shot the intruder. The man later died from his injuries. [kscj.com, Sioux City, Iowa, 7/22/19]

– A Florida homeowner used an AR-15 semi-automatic platform rifle to protect himself from four alleged home invaders who reportedly broke into his house intending to rob him. An hour before the invasion, one of the men apparently knocked on the door and attempted to lure the homeowner outside by claiming to need help with his vehicle. The owner refused explaining that he was disabled. The man returned later with three others and broke into the home. Awakened by the noise, the homeowner grabbed his AR-15 rifle that he kept near his bed for protection. Two robbers fired at the homeowner. One wearing a “Jason” mask and gloves on both hands used a semi-automatic pistol, while the other was a 22-year-old armed with a shotgun. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, one robber was killed at the scene. The other died from his injuries at the hospital. [villages-news.com, Summerfield Florida, 7/11/19]

So, this is a teachable moment for Julian Castro, please stop saying really stupid stuff that can be easily debunked. We all know what you and your ilk have as a true intent, gun confiscation and disarmament. Look here silly boy, good people have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms. They have a right to protect themselves, not just from criminals, but also from a tyrannical government, for which you are an advocate. This Nation and its quest for independence began on the issue of gun control. That was why the “shot fired, heard ’round the world” happened…the British were marching to destroy a weapons and armaments factory in Concord Massachusetts on April 19, 1775.

Then and now, we realize a simple fact, an armed individual is a citizen…an unarmed individual is a subject. And even worse, an unarmed individual is a victim for criminals.

I know that you are running to be President of these United States, God only knows why, since you would not honor our Constitution. And I am quite sure you have no clue about civics, nor read the Founding Fathers. So, let me close Julian, with a quote from the writer of our Declaration of Independence, and 3d President of our Country…something you will NEVER be.

“The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes . . . Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rather to encourage than to prevent homicides, for an unarmed man may be attacked with greater confidence than an armed man.”

– Thomas Jefferson, Commonplace Book (quoting 18th-century criminologist Cesare Beccaria), 1774-1776

Hey Julian, take this advice from King Solomon found in Proverbs 17:28 (New International Version), “Even fools are thought wise if they keep silent, and discerning if they hold their tongues.”

[VIDEO] ACWT: Interview with LTC Allen West

I joined America, Can We Talk? and it’s host, Debbie Georgatos, to discuss topics of the day including my bid for Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.

LTC Allen West appears on America, Can We Talk (ACWT) with Debbie Georgatos.

The Left’s Policies Are Killing Businesses

If there is one thing no one can debate in America it is the failure of the policies of the progressive socialist left. Let’s just look at it objectively, using our common sense, if things are so great in leftist controlled states, why are people fleeing them? I truly believe any assessment and analysis of population shifts, growth, will evidence that places like California, Illinois, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut are bleeding population. States like Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Georgia are exploding, but why is it that some of those fleeing these failed states still support failed policies. Yes, there is only one explanation, delusion.

Businesses are struggling, some are shutting down in these Democrat (socialist) controlled states. Some are able to relocate, others just suffer the fate of closing forever. For whatever reason, no one wants to admit the cause: leftist ideological agendas that are anti-free market and business.

We have another example emanating from the bastion and incubator of insidious progressive socialist left policies, California. I guess it is quite hard to believe that Ronald Reagan was once the governor of California. As reported by ABC7News:

“San Francisco is known as a haven for good food, but restaurants in the city are increasingly finding it hard to stay open. On the Embarcadero, 26-year-old Palomino, once known for its popular happy hour, has just closed its doors. Three restaurants near Oracle Park — Pete’s Tavern, Pedro’s Cantina and Amici’s East Coast Pizzeria — have also closed, according to Hoodline. And in the Mission District, the owner of Dosa is also closing its original location on Valencia Street after 15 years.

“It was a combination of a lot of different things,” Dosa CEO Anjan Mitra told ABC7 News. “It seemed like the perfect storm that hit us, hit the restaurant industry.”

Mitra said the rise of food delivery companies, such as DoorDash, Uber Eats and GrubHub, along with tech companies like Munchery and Sprig, which delivered ready-made food to customers, has contributed to the increasing number of restaurant closures.

“The way people order food, you know online, put a lot of price pressures on us,” Mitra explained, “So they took our margins away, so we are giving up 25-30 percent of our prices to the delivery companies.”

On top of that, he said, the high cost of living, along with employee benefit requirements by the City, has led to increased business costs. According to Laurie Thomas with the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, who looked at numbers available on Yelp, restaurant closures in San Francisco have outpaced openings by nine percent. She said last year, there were 325 closures versus 298 openings.

Thomas, along with other members of the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, recently spoke to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors asking the City to offset some of the costs for small business owners. “If you want to have neighborhood restaurants, keep adding to the vibrancy of each of these neighborhoods,” Mitra said. “You’ve got to think about the laws that you’ve actually put in place that could potentially have a devastating impact across the city and across the Bay Area, potentially.”

Let’s be honest here: it is not just about the free market competition of DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grub Hub. These businesses are struggling to contend with the government laws being passed that undermine their efforts. As it was stated, small businesses operate with very thin margins, but when you have government mandating your pay and employee benefits, it is only a matter of time. I found it rather laughable, in a hypocritical way, that ol’ Bernie Sanders cut staff hours after he announced a $15 minimum wage for his organization. Yet these progressive leftists come up with these deranged schemes, force them onto small businesses, and what do you expect to happen? They either fire workers, or close shop.

If you think the cost of housing in California, namely the Bay Area, is steep, think about commercial business property rent. As well, when you have the abhorrent homeless problem, which California, and again, namely San Francisco, has embraced, and encouraged, what happens with businesses located in the city proper? Yes, I think you can understand why those free-market competitors are thriving as opposed to brick and mortar restaurants in San Francisco. Who wants to be confronted with the abject filth that has been spawned due to the city of San Francisco’s lack of addressing this issue.

Now, what makes this issue so interesting is that we have cities in the Lone Star State of Texas who are embracing the same failed policies. Consider what downtown Austin, Texas looks like now, a city council that passed an ordinance that homeless people can erect tents. Who would want to venture to downtown Austin, Texas for dinner at a restaurant? And how many of these eating establishments can survive if they are mandated to provide a “living wage” to employees? Again, honestly speaking, these minimum wage jobs were never intended to be careers, or be the means by which to raise a family. These are entry-level jobs, positions, that afford people early work experience. But, since the Democrat (socialist) Party sees people as victims, they have to use this to make their case and advance their failed beliefs, and principles.

What is the bottom line of the left? Heck, they do not care if these businesses are closing. After all, they never believed that these business owners should have been given any respect, recognition . . . after all, “they didn’t build that.” And, the more people made unemployed, well, as stated, the left needs victims.

Since being here in Texas, I have heard folks refer to Austin as the “San Francisco of the Midwest.” My question is, who thinks that is an admirable title? If “Keep Austin Weird” means looking more like San Francisco…I am all in for “Making Austin Texas Normal.”

Nancy’s Vision for Texas; Not on My Watch!

Last night, I spent time with some very close friends who could not understand why I was running for Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas. After about twenty minutes they understood, and the next 45 minutes was all about solidifying why the position is critical for the future of the entire United States of America. At this critical point, there has to be a voice, a voice of resolute, determined, focused constitutional conservatism that will be relentless in turning back the tide of progressive socialism attempting to establish itself in the Lone Star State.

Just today, there was another Texas GOP Congressman who has decided to retire, Rep. Mac Thornberry, ranking member of the House Armed Services Committee . . . that makes six. No, I am not fretting, but we have an opportunity to raise, recruit, and equip a new generation of conservatives to step into the gap.

However, this is causing the Democrat (socialist) Party to believe Texas is theirs for the taking. That is why I am here, right now, in the Houston area, since they left just had their presidential debate here in Houston, where every single Republican elected official was defeated in 2018.

As reported by The Hill:

“Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) told a crowd Saturday that Texas is a top target for Democrats come 2020. Pelosi said at Tribune Fest hosted by the Texas Tribune that she agreed with Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairwoman Rep. Cheri Bustos’ (D-Ill.) characterization of the state as “ground zero” for the party.

“This is it,” Pelosi said. “Texas is our hope for the future. And I’m not just talking about Democrats. I am talking about the country and the world. When Texas goes blue, that’s going to be very wholesome for our nation.  It is a beautifully diverse state in every way.”

Her remarks follow those from Manny Garcia, executive director of the Texas Democratic Party, who told Hill.TV earlier this month that his state would be the top swing state in the nation in 2020.

“Texas is the biggest battleground state in the country,” he said. “We are dramatically changing, we’re changing quite rapidly.”

“When you ask Texans if they would vote for Donald Trump or someone else, someone else currently wins,” Garcia added.

Four Texas Republicans have announced their retirements in recent weeks, and some districts including Rep. Will Hurd’s (D-Texas) have been moved from “toss-up” to “lean Democratic” in recent weeks by the Cook Political Report.”

"So, Nancy Pelosi — Ms. Impeachment — comes into Texas & throws down the challenge & where was our response? Here's mine: I want to be on the frontlines of this ideological battle & that's why I am running to be RPT Chair." Click To Tweet

So, Nancy Pelosi — Ms. Impeachment — comes into Texas and throws down the challenge, and where was our response? Well, here is mine: I want to be on the frontlines of this ideological battle, and that is exactly why I am running to be the Texas GOP Chairman. This is a fight, and this is what a Warrior, an American Spartan, seeks, a challenge to continue to serve and honor the oath that I took. We cannot allow the left to run about the State of Texas with impunity and make their absurd assertions.

I want y’all to never forget the words Pelosi spoke:

“Texas is our hope for the future. And I’m not just talking about Democrats. I am talking about the country and the world. When Texas goes blue, that’s going to be very wholesome for our nation.”

What Pelosi is talking about is control, power, 38 electoral votes, soon to be 40-41. She is talking about ideological domination, and there is no way we will allow them to use Texas as the path to their tyranny.

We have a choice, victors, or victims. In Texas, we are victors! It is time we wholeheartedly defeat the scourge, the cancer, of progressive socialism here in Texas.

Join me in this fight! Tell Nancy, “Come and Take It!”

Ask Allen: Leftist Hypocrisy; Protecting Senior Citizens

We are in the historical city of Ephesus today, continuing our tour with the Media Research Center. I am carving out some time to address your “Ask Allen” questions. Keep them coming, folks!

I know everyone is a hypocrite in some way, but I have seen it blatantly in Leftists. How do they not see it when it’s glaringly obvious? For example, I see cars with bumper stickers that say “Coexist” and then next to it is “Resist.” — Pamela D., Lansdowne, PA

Greetings, Pamela!

When it comes to hypocrisy, the progressive socialist left has the market cornered. Remember, they are the ones who preach “tolerance” but that is only when tolerating your acquiescence to their ideological agenda.

One of my favorites is when they desire “bipartisanship” until they are in power and the word is never mentioned. Case in point, it was Hillary Clinton who said that there would be “civility” when they are in control. Well, that ain’t exactly what I call civility, it is more akin to tyranny. And, that is what the progressive socialist left desires, Pamela: complete and utter ideological domination. They do not wish for any coexistence with any philosophy of governance that opposes their own.

As well, freedom of speech — to them — means accepted speech. Otherwise, you do not have any freedom to speak or express yourself. Your freedom of religion, faith, means nothing when it is contrary to their dogma. That is why Jack Phillips, the Colorado baker, had to go before the Supreme Court for declining to bake a cake for a same-sex marriage ceremony.

Right now, the greatest hypocrisy is that we have leftists running to be the President of a country that they do not even like, or believe should exist. Anyone advocating for open borders and decriminalization of crossing our borders illegally is not exactly what I would call “presidential” material. However, the hypocrisy of the left is that they want to rule over a nation that they hate, despise, and want to fundamentally transform. To me, and I believe for you, as well, that is the ultimate hypocrisy.

Our next question comes from my home state of Texas:

Thank you for your service and I wish you the best in the campaign. In the wake of the Silver Tsunami with so many retiring daily, what will you do to protect elders from falling victim to unscrupulous guardians like FL-Rebecca Fierle. — Melody G., Pipe Creek, TX

Melody, thanks for your question on healthcare guardians taking advantage of their elderly clients.

As to what I can do about this situation as Chair of the Republican Party of Texas, first, bring attention to it. If there is one thing that concerns me, it is the “Medicare for all” proposal from the progressive socialist left. Medicare, as well as Medicaid, are both wrought with fraud and abuse cases such as this one from Orlando involving Rebecca Fierle. There are already laws on the books to deal with these types of predatory individuals. However, what we need are better, and routine, reconciliation processes providing checks on the billing process in these government-sponsored medical programs. It is hard to legislate abhorrent behavior, but we can certainly ensure we identify and punish people like Ms. Fierle.

To submit a question for consideration for our “Ask Allen” columns, please head over to this page, and maybe you will see it featured in a future post!

When Texas Resembles California

We all know the saying, “keep Austin weird” as if that is some moniker of pride in the capital city of the Lone Star State. It was just recently decided by the Austin City Council to allow homeless individuals to erect tents downtown. We have previously reported on the Autonomous Student Network who issued threats against incoming conservative freshman students at the University of Texas, Austin . . . which is becoming one of the most radicalized progressive socialist universities in America.

There is no doubt that one has to ask: is Austin the capital of Texas, or the results of leftist infiltration into Texas from California?

Just last week the Democrat (socialist) Party presidential debate roadshow took the stage in Houston, Texas. Yes, Houston, Texas, where every Republican elected official was defeated in November 2018. It is unconscionable to believe that a former Texas member of Congress made the pronounced statement that gun confiscation was a viable policy solution. And, in San Antonio, home to one of America’s great symbols of courage and heroism, The Alamo, the city council there denied Chick-fil-A’s petition to open a store at the airport.

You must truly ask, what the heck is happening in my adopted home state of Texas? This can no longer be dismissed in acquiescence to the progressive socialist left, and their ideological agenda is not a course of action in Texas. Here is further proof that we are at a tipping point in Texas. As reported by CBN:

“Austin, Texas is making it easier for women to get abortions. It’s now the first US city to fund abortion support services.  This includes things like travel, lodging, counseling, and childcare.  Members of the Austin City Council voted Tuesday night to give $150,000 to the cause. They say its purpose is to remove barriers that might otherwise keep low-income women from getting abortions.

Texas law SB22 bars any financial relationships between cities and abortion providers. It went into effect last week. Council Member Jimmy Flanagan was the only council member who voted against the measure. He said that this should be a county responsibility rather than a city budget measure. All other council members, including the mayor, voiced their support of the initiative.

Pro-life advocates slammed the city council’s move to try to bypass state law.  “It’s appalling that the city of Austin doubled down on its policies to ‘save the trees, kill the children,'” Nicole Hudgens, director of policy at the anti-abortion group Texas Values, told media outlets after the amendment passed. ” Hudgens called the amendment a “political stunt attempting to circumvent the law.” She said if the city wants to help women they should lower taxes.”

I must ask if these leftists in Austin feel the same about pregnancy centers who seek to help women through pregnancy? Or do these disciples of Margaret Sanger only desire to ensure more unborn babies — and perhaps those born — are murdered? We recently heard about the story of the deceased abortion provider, whose license had been revoked, and over 2200 aborted babies were found in his Illinois home. Of course, he practiced in South Bend, Indiana, home of one Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

But, back to Texas. This leftist campaign is not something that has happened overnight. It has been a dedicated and concerted effort. But this is why we can no longer afford to appease the left’s ideological agenda, not just in Texas, but period. We need to take a resolute and principled stance and take the constitutional conservative message of freedom and liberty to every single corner of Texas, and America. We are watching the long slow march, once touted by Chairman Mao, happen in Texas, happen in America.

There are two individuals running for president from the Great State of Texas, yet they embrace the policy of open borders, decriminalizing illegal entry into our country, and gun confiscation.

Not in Texas folks . . . not in America!
